Chimney Liner Installation

The chimney liner is the most critical safety component in your entire venting system. It contains combustion gases, protects surrounding combustible materials from dangerous heat transfer, and channels corrosive byproducts safely out of the home. When a liner is cracked, deteriorated, or simply absent — a common finding in older Charlotte homes — the risk of carbon monoxide intrusion and structural fire increases significantly. Christopher's Chimney Sweeps installs flexible stainless steel liner systems and cast-in-place liners to restore proper function and meet current building codes.

Flexible stainless steel liners are the most common solution for existing chimneys. We size each liner to match the specific appliance — whether a wood stove, gas insert, oil furnace, or open fireplace — using manufacturer specifications and NFPA clearance requirements. The liner is lowered into the existing flue, connected at the appliance collar, and capped at the top with a properly sized termination cap. Insulation wrap is often added to improve draft performance, which is particularly helpful in the taller chimneys found in Charlotte's older Victorian and craftsman-style homes.

For chimneys where the masonry is sound but the interior profile is irregular, a cast-in-place liner system uses a poured refractory material to create a smooth, seamless flue. This approach can actually strengthen the chimney structure while providing excellent heat resistance. All liner installations include a post-installation draft test and a final inspection to confirm proper performance before we consider the job complete.
